We sprinkled some magic on a special celebration

When you’re in the business of making dreams come true, you’ve got to do something out of this world for your 30th birthday. To mark this monumental occasion, Disneyland Paris launched a year-long celebration which showcased spectacular new rides, never-before-seen entertainment and saw the opening of the much-anticipated Marvel Avengers Campus. Now all they needed were lots of holidaymakers to join in the fun.
Magic at work
We were asked to dream up a bespoke booking incentive platform for the French Travel Trade that would encourage bookings during the Disneyland Paris 30th Anniversary, as well as educating them about the new attractions, shows and entertainment available during the celebrations. Luckily, we waved our wands – and, just like that, the perfect game appeared. OK. OK. That’s not what happened at all. We brainstormed a ton of ideas until we landed on something we felt would attract the attention of travel partners – and that’s when the real magic started to happen.
Sparking into life
With a strong track record of creative engaging booking incentive platforms, we built a game where the travel partners entered their details and booking references before being invited to ‘ignite the magic’ by clicking on an animated switch. A spark then lit a fuse on screen and as the user followed it, they navigated through key pieces of information about the celebrations. If they were lucky enough to win a prize, the spark went on to ignite spectacular fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Bringing the creative to life
We took our lead from the 30th Anniversary Style Guide developed by the creative team in Paris and used this to design and develop a fully bespoke platform that brought the celebration to life through rich, immersive theming. Smooth scrolling was incorporated with support for parallax effects that meant we could animate layered visuals and renders to bring them to life.
Keeping it fresh
We knew agents would come to the site every time they made a booking, so we served up two fixed content panels that displayed on every visit and two dynamic panels that changed each time, allowing us to show a mix of content, ensuring users were fully informed about the celebrations. Bookings were logged on a secure database, which our client could access with an easy-to-use admin area.
The game served its purpose in educating and raising awareness of the celebrations, as well as driving bookings during this once-in-a-lifetime celebration. We were delighted to contribute to the success of Disneyland Paris’ extraordinary milestone. Here’s to the next 30 years being just as amazing.
