Curio is a series of free talks celebrating curiosity and creative thinking. Devised, named, created, and hosted by us, Curio is our contribution to Glasgow’s creative community. Glasgow already hosts stellar creative events throughout the year but we wanted to add something new into the mix.
Unlimited creativity
There’s never been a more important time to cherish what creativity is. What are the consequences of asking the question ‘What If?’ Where does this take creative minds? What are the outcomes? Curio is a platform where people from different sectors can share their stories. It’s a place where challenging questions can be asked. Successes can be celebrated, and failures have positive outcomes. Truths can be spoken and thoughts laid bare. It’s an inclusive event where voices from those starting out are just as valued as those at the peak of their career.
Curious and curiouser
We brought Curio to life with its own visual identity, which leaned into a whole host of curiosities. The logotype is bold and chunky, but with a quirky and unconventional R. We feature a whole bank of abstract imagery that provides a lot of colour and richness which hints at something – but never reveals anything. All of which is brought together with a framework that takes inspiration from curio cabinets.
Opposites attract
The overall identity is a clash of images: some contrasting and some that are more harmonious. When the time came to launch Curio 01, we focused on one specific colourway giving the event its own sub-identity, which we’ll continue for Curio 02, 03, and beyond.
Inspiration all around
The events have surpassed our expectations. Such was the overwhelming level of interest we’ve had to move Curio into a bigger venue at the Social Hub thanks to funding from Glasgow City Innovation District. We’ve experienced evenings filled with stories – and laughter, about what can happen when people push boundaries. Our speakers have talked about a variety of topics such as video games, making documentaries with rock stars, uprisings in Sudan that inspired art, mid-life crises, creative education for children, and neurodiversity. The events have been thought-provoking, energising and provided a great opportunity for people to network. We’re happy to say the feedback has been glowing and our ever-burgeoning audience is already looking forward to the next Curio – as are we.
